SWIMMING CARNIVAL
On Friday, 3rd February four buses took students to the Great Lakes Aquatic Centre for our annual swimming carnival. Uralba has held the swimming trophy for the last two years. Each team was lead by newly elected house
captains. After a long day of grueling competition the points were tallied and Wallamba took out the title for the first time in many, many, many years.

The age champions were: Junior girl Courtney Rovere Junior boy Steven Cavenagh 11 year girl Lauren Abberton and Loren Farrell 11 year boy Ayden Clemensen Senior girl Hannah Rovere Senior boy Jordan Wilson. Steven Cavanagh broke three long-standing records: the junior boys 50m breaststroke with a time of 53.9 sec, 50m backstroke with a time of 49.17 sec., 50m butterfly with a time of 54.06 sec. One of our new students for 2006, Hannah Rovere, also broke 3 records: U/12 yrs girls’ freestyle with a time of 34.40 sec., senior girls’ butterfly with a time of 45.43 sec., open medley with a time 3.17.01.

CONGRATULATIONS LAUREN ABBERTON

As well as being a state athletic champion, Lauren is a member of Forster Surf Lifesaving Club. In January she competed in NSW Country Championships and early in February Lauren competed at the Mid-North Coast Championships, winning the sprint and flags. Well done! |
CRICKET TEAM

This year’s cricket team has some of the best players our school has had in a long time. Their names are Jesse McCarthy, Cade McConnell, Zac Palmer, Nathan Bonnici, Jake Elder, Nicholas Gray, Nathan Wijaya, Corey Eason, Steven Cavanagh, Mitchell Wilson, Tynan Leahy, Ayden Clemensen and Daniel Olivera. Our captain is Cade McConnell and our coach is Mr Bill Lyndon. Our first challenge will be against Forster Public School, which is always a closely contested local derby. The match will be played at the South Street Oval Complex on Friday, 10th March at 9.15 am. Mr Lyndon has made sure our kit is ready with new bats and pads. Our training has been solid with plenty of net work to sharpen our batting and bowling as well as some fielding drills to lift us to ‘Ricky Ponting leves’ of accuracy. |
ZONE SWIMMING CARNIVAL
On Thursday, 2nd March, a team of 22 students travelled to Wingham for the Manning Zone Swimming Carnival. After a cancellation earlier in the week, because of rain, the whole team was keen to compete. Tuncurry Public School’s representatives travelled by bus with the Forster Public School team and arrived in plenty of time to choose a sheltered spot and do some warm up laps. The zone carnival is a qualification carnival for the Hunter Region Carnival. The whole team swam very well with many achieving personal best times. Hannah Leung and Courtney Rovere qualified to swim in individual events at region. Congratulations to all who represented our school at the zone carnival. Our thanks go to the parents, Mr Graham and Mrs Watson, for attending. It is only with such support that carnivals and other similar events can proceed. |
AWESOME FOURSOME
Tuncurry Public School’s junior relay team did the school proud at the recent regional carnival held at Maitland Pool. Courtney Warren had a great start for the team before handing over to Nakea Simon who kept her position in the field. Courtney Rovere was next into the water and she touched the wall for the final swimmer, Hannah Leung, to enter the pool. Hannah swam a great leg against much bigger and older competitors to just fail to grab third spot by a whisker. There were only centimetres in it, with the official margin being 1/100th of a second. All four turned in excellent performances to lower the time they swam at the zone carnival held at Wingham the week before. The girls along with senior swimmer, Hannah Rovere, who recorded several personal best times, represented the school very well and we look forward to the junior girls doing even better next year. |
TENNIS

Congratulations the Tuncurry Public School Tennis Team, comprising Keira Halicek, Billy Snow, Jack Snow, Alec Hanson, Josie Philpott and Paige Elford for beating Old Bar Public School 48 games to two. Good luck at the next round. Tracey Griffin, Co-ordinator |
